SUMMARY:Progress in Developing Programmes for Training and Supporting Postgraduate Supervisors
DESCRIPTION:The Community of Practice for Postgraduate Education and Scholarship (CoP PGES) convened for a critical discussion focusing on the training and support of supervisors in postgraduate education. \nWe recognise the vital need to provide adequate training and support to supervisors\, although we cannot guarantee the effectiveness of all existing programmes. The discussion will centred on evaluating the progress of current programmes and sharing the insights and lessons learned from their implementation. \nIf you are a supervisor or aspire to become one in the future or are involved in postgraduate education\, scholarship\, and research capacity development\, this discussion is relevant for you.

SUMMARY:Future-Proofing Postgraduate Education in the Age of AI
DESCRIPTION:From summarising literature to writing student text\, from analysing data to generating infographics\, Generative AI offers the means to speed up and enhance the postgraduate research process. But at what cost?\nThis session included hands-on examples of AI tools being used in postgraduate research and raised several ethical considerations that might guide supervisors and academic leaders with these tools.\nWe collectively reflected on what these generative AI tools mean for postgraduate studies\, students’ supervision\, and the knowledge creation and dissemination processes. \n\nRelated Articles\n\nOpen student engagement about AI would be more beneficial than policing them on its use – a senior Rhodes University scholar advises\nSenior academics’ insights shared at the postgraduates and AI workshop
